As a Montana veteran, you are eligible to have a “Veteran Designation” added to your driver license or ID card. This designation recognizes your service and may serve as proof for your eligibility to receive benefits or discounts offered by businesses and organizations.

There are two ways to apply for a Veteran Designation

  1. You may apply in person at any Driver Exam Station. We recommend doing this when you are due to renew your license. If you are not due for a renewal, you can request a replacement license with the updated veteran status.
  2. You may apply by mail. Download, fill out and submit Add Veteran Designation (21-3000)

When applying for a Veteran Designation:

You must also provide a letter from the Montana Veteran Affairs office confirming your veteran status and one of the following:

  1. Certified copy of DD-214 (showing an honorable discharge
  2. VA Healthcare Card
  3. Retired Military ID

There is no cost to add a Veteran Designation, however the standard renewal or replacement fees apply.
